Questions to Ask an HVAC Contractor

A house still remains the largest investment that the majority of people make. And people living in California make a pretty big investment. If you want to protect your investment, you need to make sure that the contractors you hire are professional and competent.

You need to do your homework prior to hiring a Heating and Air Conditioning Emergency Repairs contractor in California. This article contains a few questions you can ask your Californian HVAC contractor. If a contractor seems to object to your interview, then you should just cross them off of your list and move on to the next one.

Can I See Your License?

Never hire anyone who doesn't have the proper licenses. Many people make a mistake by assuming that an HVAC contractor is licensed simply because they advertise where other licensed contractors advertise. Assuming that a contractor is licensed is a mistake. You should always request their license numbers. Once you have that number, you can check with the state board yourself. Do You Have Liability Insurance?

Any AC Installation and Replacements Calabasas contractor you hire should also carrying liability insurance. You could be liable for an uninsured HVAC contractor who gets hurt while doing a job for you. In addition to their license number you also need proof of insurance.

You should also ask how long they've been in business and if they have some references you can contact. The amount of time a HVAC contractor has been in business is not a foolproof way to figure out if a contractor is good or not. However, the longer they've been in business suggest that they must be doing something right.

Most HVAC contractors in California have their references on hand at all times. If a contractor doesn't have references or doesn't feel comfortable sharing them with you, maybe you should consider hiring someone else. You have to do something else. You need to actually follow-up and call the references. This makes a lot of people uncomfortable but it is something you really should do.

Besides asking the HVAC contractor questions, you should also do a little research. You can easily research HVAC contractors on the internet. There are tons of websites where customers can post feedback about contractors. If a contractor has lot of disgruntled customers, the internet will know.

The Better Business Bureau is another place you can look. People trust the Better Business Bureau which has be protecting consumers for decades. Many elderly people are not familiar with the internet so they may not complain on online forums but they will report bad contractors to the Better Business Bureaus. By consulting online forums and the Better Business Bureau you can make sure you've thoroughly checked out the contractor.
